Abstract

equipments, and specific characteristics of contemporary art media in each ASEAN country 2) To explore issues relating to contemporary art, which are spaces of
contemporary art, social context, and roles of art institutions. Keeping up with the
current development of contemporary art in ASEAN is considered necessary for the
research team composed of seven university lecturers.The team needs to understand and analyse the development in order to pass on knowledge to their students
who are the future of ASEAN contemporay art scene.
The scope of the research program can be seen from field trips carried out in five
countries only: Lao, Myanmar, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Singapore. The research program is composed of six research projects. Each researchers choose the
research title accroding to his subject of interest.
Methodologies used in all research projects are of qualitative characters. The
methods are 1) Document review 2) Fieldwork 3) Interview 4) Observation and 5)
Record. Methods used in each research project are slightly different from one another due to specific social and cultural contexts in each country. All researchers
transformed raw data into information, analyzed it, and passed their analysis to
head of the research program. The head analyzed the over-all findings in a final
state.
Contemporary art in ASEAN is a new and challenging subject to be researched.
The learning, exploring and analyzing process needs time. More art researchers
are required too as they can collaborate in collecting enough information for generating regional knowledge in a near future.
