This article on the creative work consists of 3 main objectives as follows: 1) Collecting the information relating to the conservation for changing the use of space in Samsen Palace; 2) Collecting the information relating to the policies and needs of activities regarding the useful space in the project; and 3) Creating the concept to be used as the guideline for the design for improvement of the space in Samsen Palace. In addition, under the supervision of Wachiraphayaban Subdistrict, the improvement and change of the use of space in the Conservation Building at Samsen Palace consisted of the following procedures: studying the historical information relating to the architecture and utility of the building. In terms of methodology, a survey was conducted for 4 case studies to compare the allocation of useful space according to the activities. Lastly, the obtained data were synthesized and presented as the guideline for the design for improvement of Samsen Palace by showing the layout of the use of space in the building and scenery of the interior design of the building.
According to the results of the design in the building of the Office of the University Council, the objective was to focus on the activities regarding academic operations. Thus, the design highlighted modernity according to the activities conducted by the University Council. In terms of the conservation of Samsen Palace, the use of space in the building was changed by arranging the space for conference room and VIP reception room, as well as exhibiting the royal biography. In addition, the patterns and details of the interior design of the original buildings were maintained in order to conserve the historic buildings as a source of knowledge and culture of Bangkok Metropolis.
