The development of terracotta figure souvenir from the art of Dvaravati

Abstract

Dvaravati art has an influence on Buddhist art and its civilization has been found through out the historical evidences, including the sculpture of 5 lady musicians and this is inspired me to develop a sculpture of a modern day. This research aims to develop terracotta figures souvenir developed from the art of Dvaravati and aims to preserve its value for the younger generation. The tool of this study is an interview form. The sample populations are 5 artists who gave opinions on art composition. The results of the study found that using a mix of 3 types of clay that are Baan dan kwian 50% Baan don sela 30% and white clay of Lampang 20% The casting mold for the prototype used plasticine and wax then processed it based on the original terracotta process. The decoration techniques are scratching, digging, graving, sticking. For the burning process, electric klin used at 1,200 C  in the atmosphere of an oxidation firing without glazing. The design is developed from the lady’s charactoristics of Dvaravati era and the ornaments designed according to the evedences of the artifacts.
