Investigation Management in Crime Scene Examination by Detectives
Main Article Content
Abstract
Investigation management by detective is of great importance to the investigative process because proper investigation management ensures efficiency and the achievement of desired outcomes at every stage, whether it is pre-incident investigation, during-incident investigation, or post-incident investigation. The investigation during and after an incident follows the principles at the core of investigation. These principles involve uncovering details and gaining an understanding of the events related to the case by seeking facts and gathering relevant evidence. The ultimate goal is to determine who committed the crime or who participated in it, leading to the arrest and prosecution of the offender. Most importantly, during the trial phase, the judge must base their verdict on sufficiently substantial facts and evidence that can conclusively prove the defendant’s guilt as alleged by the prosecution. The most credible evidence accepted by the court often comes from forensic evidence, which includes physical evidence collected from the crime scene. However, physical evidence and the condition of the crime scene can deteriorate or be destroyed over time. Therefore, effective investigation management in crime scene examination is essential. In addition to following proper procedures and international standards during crime scene investigation, it also involves methods to preserve the integrity of the scene. For instance, "freezing the crime scene " the scene or capturing detailed photographs of the crime scene at every stage serves to safeguard the scene's details for future investigative purposes.
