Artificial Intelligence Technology for Forensic Science: Awakening or Frightening

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a potential innovation. Many developers attempt to improve the AI as human intelligence. According to the AI awakening, it is found that AI has been applied in several disciplines, including Criminal Justice and Forensic Science. Many countries use AI for classification, analysis and examination to support forensic investigation. In Thailand, there were some research and development about AI in Forensic Science, which are expected to ease its complication and intricacy. In terms of preparation for AI in Forensic Science, forensic scientists, developers and Criminal Justice practitioners should accurately understand AI’s principles, Forensic Science knowledge and Criminal Justice purposes. Moreover, all relevant parties should realize the impact of AI on knowledge, accuracy, standard procedure, equipment, budget and ethics. If there is not any preparation, AI awakening may become AI frightening. Finally, the application of AI for Forensic Science must be used to support and fulfill the forensic scientist limitations and give more positive results in Criminal Justice for delivering more accuracy, fairness and efficiency.
