The Study of the Significance of Forensic Evidence and Utilization in Criminal Case : Satun Provincial Police Station

Abstract
The objective of this study is to examine the understanding of crime scene evidence collection, the opinion of Inquiry Officer (IO) in forensic evidence utilization in criminal cases and the significance of forensic evidence at the crime scene by in-depth interview of 10 IOs who work in Satun provincial police station. The study revealed that IOs have the most understanding in the topic of forensic evidence collection, where transient evidences must be collected first. However, lacking of knowledge on the evidence management was addressed, for example; marking of the gun shell evidence and evidence collection of blood sample. The opinions from IOs showed that most IOs are knowledgeable, skillful and experienced in forensic evidence collection. IOs realized that the forensic evidence is critical for investigation, therefore regular training must be introduced. Tools and equipment should be sufficient in each local police station. The significance of forensic evidence processed in criminal cases of Satun province extremely impacts on IO works because it is preponderated and reliable to case report. Moreover, forensic evidence cannot be altered, it is eligible for the consideration of prosecutor and court.
