สัญลักษณ์ในหน้าบันวิหารและอุโบสถสมัยครูบาศรีวิชัย : การเมืองวัฒนธรรมในสังคมล้านนา พ.ศ. 2463 – 2477

Abstract

การนำสัญลักษณ์แบบแผนงานศิลปะรัตนโกสินทร์เข้ามาใช้ในงานศิลปกรรมของครูบาศรีวิชัย สะท้อนโลกทัศน์ความเป็นกรุงเทพมหานครที่มีอิทธิพลต่องานช่างท้องถิ่น เห็นได้จากรูปพระนารายณ์ทรงครุฑและรูปครุฑ ซึ่งสะท้อนอำนาจใหม่ของสถาบันกษัตริย์ที่เข้ามาแทนที่อำนาจของเจ้าเมืองท้องถิ่นผ่านระบบราชการ ตลอดจนรูปพระมหาพิชัยมงกุฎและช้างไอยราพต ซึ่งสะท้อนการปฏิรูปคณะสงฆ์โดยมหาเถรสมาคมภายใต้การบริหารจัดการของธรรมยุติกนิกาย

        มโนทัศน์เรื่องการใช้สัญลักษณ์แทนอัตลักษณ์ส่วนบุคคล เห็นได้จากการใช้รูปปีเปิ้ง หรือรูปนักษัตรร่วมกับรูปนารายณ์ทรงครุฑและรูปครุฑ รูปพระมหาพิชัยมงกุฎ และช้างไอยราพต คือ การปะทะประสาน “ตัวตนของล้านนา” ภายใต้บริบทความสัมพันธ์เชิงอำนาจระหว่างอำนาจสยามและท้องถิ่นล้านนา สัญญะทั้งหมดข้างต้นได้ถูกนำมาใช้เพื่อการสื่อสารบนรูปแบบของ “การเมืองวัฒนธรรม” ที่มีการต่อสู้กันเพื่อช่วงชิงและนิยามความหมายผ่านงานช่างในวัฒนธรรมพุทธศาสนาได้อย่างน่าสนใจ

The Symbols of the Vihara and Uposatha Tympanums in Sri - Vichai Monks age : Lan Na Cultural Politics between 1920 - 1934 A.D.

        The symbolism of Rattanakosin artistic style which is applied through artworks of Kruba Sri-Vichai present Bangkok craftsmanship’s influence on the local Lan Na style. The symbol of Lord Vishnu on the Garuda and the symbol of the Garuda image, clearly represent the new political power of the central monarchy system, which replaced the former power of the local governor and bureaucratic system. The symbol of Phra Maha Phichai Mongkut ( The Great crown of Victory ) and the Airavata (the three headed elephant ) reveal the Thai clergy reformation under the Sangha Administration within the Dhammyuttika Buddhist sect.

         The concept of replacing the old political identity by introducing new symbols can also be found in the appearance of animal imagery from the Chinese zodiac system into the Lan Na identity. This appearance shows the relationship of power between greater Siam and lesser Lan Na. All these new symbols are integrated into the communication of cultural politics which helped redefined Lan Na identity through craftsmen in Buddhist culture.
