The study of colorized photographs usage for historical study in Thailand

Abstract
This research aims to study the process and use of colorized photographs for historical studies in Thailand. It will examine the methods of coloring photographs, as well as their dissemination and implementation as historical tools. Focuses on the phenomenon of colorized photographs and the importance of bringing photography into a historical study by using mixed methods that contain Qualitative Research and Quantitative Research. The tool for collecting data is a non-participant observation with 10 colorized makers at the present, having an in-depth interview with 2 specialists in colorized photographs and 2 specialists in the study of history through photography, the data was collected from 50 history students who desire to use photography in their studies by using questionnaire for the quantitative research.
The result of the survey demonstrated that the general use of colorized photographs for historical study in Thailand has 3 types of process, colorized by painting, colorized by retouching software on computer, and colorized by artificial intelligence. Colorized photographs by retouching software on computer is the most popular and most realistic while portraits are most chosen to be colorized. Colorized photographs were separated into 2 types of usage, for study and historical research, and for personal reasons such as recreation, artistic, and religious. Colorized photographs gain medium trustworthiness from users. The analysis and result guidelines from using colorized photographs for historical study showed that even attempting to research extensive data to ensure authenticity but those photographs might not be complete and accurate.
For study and usage, users should always consider content, source, and credits including additional information about the photographs from research. In case that users cannot avoid using any colorized photographs, it should be used when the color is directly mentioned and specifies that it was colorized photographs, and always refers to the source of colorized photographs.
