Abstract

For reasons of prosperity in information technology and digital media makes it easier to access basic information on photography so there are out several self-learning photographers for the demand of professional photographers. It is harder for the clients to select a quality photographer.  This will be the situation that the photography students must encounter after graduation. Thus, preparing their photographs portfolios would be a good means that serves the clients in selecting their photographers.  The author was interested in exploring the factors that the clients consider in selecting their photographers from their various types of portfolios. This finding will guide the student in the future when they enter the employment market.  This study used a qualitative method where data collection was done using in-depth interviewing among 5 professional photographers and 5 clients.

The result showed that the suitable portfolio in the digital age has changed in the way that professional photographers used online digital media due to the speed and convenience which met the need of clients. The clients preferred online digital media to the old fashion portfolio. However, when there is more competitiveness, the clients pay more attention to photographers’ service behavior and performance in hiring photographers.

Suggestions for study in the future; 1) This study was done in the context of commercial photographers not including the fine art photographers who might use a different way of presenting their works. 2) Under the rapid change in society and customer needs the result of this study may not be applied in the future so future studies may be needed.
