Abstract

The creation of mixed media art reflects the natural crisis and the impact of forest fires from the perception towards the detrimental effects of the forest fire – due to the fact that the author has lived in Chiang Mai for a long time and he has seen and been affected by this problem. However, after researching information, it was revealed that the forest fires were caused by economic activities, especially the agricultural occupation, which was regarded as the main reason leading to the problem.

The study and analysis of the data leads to the determination to create a mixed media sculpture to represent the issue of natural crises and human action in order to raise people’s awareness to see negative following consequences, especially those arisen from the agricultural system that has eventually resulted in the problem of forest fires in Northern Thailand.

In the creating process, the author has defined various sizes of the sculptures that demonstrate the issue and state after being destroyed by human action; mainly presenting the severe damage caused by the forest fires in the northern region of Thailand. Therefore, this dissertation in the form of an art exhibition is a mixed media sculpture art work combined with an animated medium that can display a simulation of the forest fire and its aftermath.

Moreover, in organizing this exhibition, in addition to achieving the objective to reflect environmental problem caused by the forest fires by using works of art as a medium to convey the concept, the authors also gained knowledge and benefit from many of the discoveries during the working and creating processes including experimenting with new creative methods and techniques. Another important advantage is that the author is able to develop more creative works in the future in terms of format, content including how to represent other works that, as a result, can also reflect the problem of forest fires to enhance the audience to aware of the importance of the environment as well as the consequences of the forest fires.
