Digital Painting from Murals in Ubosot of Wat Chomphu Wek (Mara)

Abstract

This research is a presumptive digital painting creative research. The objectives are 1) studying and analyzing information that related murals in Ubosot (Chapel) of Wat Chomphu Wek, Nonthaburi Province. And 2) created painting assumption from Ubosot (Chapel) of Wat Chomphu Wek by Digital Painting techniques. Research process has conducted to study and analyze information which related murals in Thailand, and especial inside Ubosot of Wat Chomphu Wek in terms of position, content, style and creative technique by means of survey and literature review. Then used the obtained information to create “Digital Painting from Murals in Ubosot of Wat Chomphu Wek (Mara)”, and afterwards, presented to the public for assessment.
The murals in Ubosot of Wat Chomphu Wek were painted in the late Ayutthaya period by Craftsmanship of Nonthaburi Province. These murals can be divided by contents into 4 groups: 1. Murals of Buddhas in the past, 2. The Ten Jataka, 3. Phramalaya, and 4. Buddha’s biography. In case of position of murals in Ubosot Wat Chomphu Wek were similarly arranged with many Ubosot where in the late Ayutthaya and Early Rattanakosin period. Researcher had selected murals “Mara” by purposive sampling to use as prototype images for created with Digital Painting technique. Then had evaluated “Digital Painting from Murals in Ubosot of Wat Chomphu Wek (Mara)” by questionnaires as a form of performance indicators.
The results showed that most of them satisfied with the “high” level of all. In addition to finding that “this Artwork can be a part of conserving ancient Thai murals” with an average of 4.48 = “high”. Accordingly, it was concluded that the creation of Digital Painting from Murals could be one of technique to preserve ancient mural work in the future.
