Costumes Design Reflecting Characters for Contemporary Dance of SAIEO SAMMANAKKA
Main Article Content
Abstract
Costumes design reflecting characters is a design for contemporary dance of SAIEO SAMMANAKKA. The objective is to create costumes that reflect the concepts and personalities of three characters namely Sammanakka, Rama and Chewha. The four main operation procedures consist of 1) studying and collecting data from books, documents, related electronic medias and interviews, 2) analyzing the personalities of those three characters, 3) designing costumes for contemporary dance of SAIEO SAMMANAKKA, and 4) presenting the costume designs to the experts who evaluate the quality of works. Furthermore, the idea is to create Sammanakka’s costume from the story of Ramakian written by King Rama I and adapt the old-styled costume into a contemporary one in order that the performers can move freely. Likewise, Rama and Chewha’s costumes are differently designed by using colors as symbols used to convey the meaning. Thus, white is used to design Rama’s costume representing a good person while black is used for Chewha’s representing sorrow from being killed by Ravana.
