Abstract

The Creation of Animation to Reflect Cultural Issues of Green Purchasing uses          the method to create art works from the study on information, facts and current social circumstances that are related to green consumption culture in order to develop, transform and change the issues studied from literatures into art works that are created with animation technique in accordance with the concept of me, the artist. There are 3 main objectives of this project, namely, 1) to study on the issue of green consumption culture  and to determine the contents of the created animation to reflect cultural issues of green purchasing; 2) to research on the procedures for creating art works and to experiment the designing of the place for exhibiting the works to synergies with the animation works; and        3) to create audiences’ awareness which leads to questioning and critique on ‘green purchasing’ through the publication of the works through the exhibition.

The works in this project are in the form of installation animation under the title ‘Waste in Place’, the exhibition of which is held from 6 th to 9 th November 2018, at the CMU Art Center Chiang Mai University. The exhibited works are the projection of an animation work on one single full screen and the show of another animation work on         3 screens that are continuous from one screen to another. The two techniques of the show of animation works manifest the contradiction between positive images of green lifestyle and negative perspectives on the severity of problems of trash, dirty garbage and waste. The presentation of such contrast reflects that the green lifestyle has the positive images of the modern society that is worth living while concealing the negative perspectives of environmental problems. The reflection of the aforementioned idea with this technique builds the critic meanings that respond to the main concept for creating the works in accordance with the predetermined objectives.

The publication of the works in the form of an exhibition has conveyed the contents that critique cultural issues of green purchase in the clear manner. The summary of audiences’ comprehension on what idea that the works in this project give them is ‘green waste’ or ‘waste is waste’. Thus, it can be granted that the exhibited works have created the learning and urged the concern with environmental problems, as well as the understanding of the creation of installation animation work that may benefit the art education and animation societies in the future.
