Abstract

The beauty of the painting on cloth at Wat Monpooyak, Lampang Province is the crucial evidence telling the story of the glorious Lanna in ancient times. This is worth for conserving as the cultural heritage since it contains aesthetic and historical values derived from wisdom and creativities belonging to ancient craftsmen. This also reflects the faith of Buddhists towards Buddhism which is the origin of culture.

This research concentrating on the conservation of the painting on cloth at Wat Monpooyak, Lampang Province, Thailand aims at conserving the painting on cloth by studying the historical dimension of the paintings on cloth at Wat Monpooyak. The research also aims at preserving the painting on cloth to safely and completely maintains its form based on art academic conservation applied with scientific knowledge for reservation. The researcher has processed to copy the painting on the cloth from knowledge, local wisdom, concepts, forms, technique, creative process and the analysis based on visual art theories. The importance of this research is the two paintings on cloth at Wat Monpooyak, Lampang become in healthy condition, provoking the wisdom concentrating on painting on cloth conservation, including raising the proud for community for preservation and transmitting cultural heritage.
