ARRANGING GUIDELINES FOR CLASSICAL AND FINGERSTYLE GUITAR IN DUET

Abstract

Nylon-string and steel-string guitars are both acoustically induced, sharing similar timbre and performance fundamentals. This article serves as a phenomenal exploration into the arrangement techniques for guitar duet between classical and fingerstyle guitars. Coming from interviews of eight adept guitarists, the data were later transcribed, utilizing VB-CABLE Virtual Audio Device software, into electronic documents to be ready for analysis. The findings assert the significance of an arranger’s understanding of fretboard notation and musical theory, as well as advocating for prudence of song selection congruent with each type of the guitars. The next critical concept encompasses the selection of key signatures that aligned with notes in open strings, alongside the adoption of unconventional or open tunings to enhance left-hand dexterity. Finally, a sonic difference between steel and nylon strings emerges as a pivotal factor in shaping excellent guitar duets.
