The Effects of Using a Guidance Activities Package to Develop Innovation Literacy of Nurses at a Hospital

Abstract

         The objectives of this research were (1) to compare mean scores of innovation literacy of nurses before and after using a guidance activities package to develop innovation literacy; and (2) to compare the innovation literacy scores of nurses who used the guidance activities package to develop innovation literacy with nurses who received normal guidance suggestions.The research sample consisted of 20 nurses who had started working in a hospital since the year 2018 whose scores on innovation literacy were ranked from lowest to highest.  Then they were randomly assigned by taking lots to be in an experimental group and a control group each of which containing 10 nurses.  Nurses in the experimental group used a guidance activities package to develop innovation literacy, while those in the control group received normal guidance suggestions.  The employed research tools were (1) a guidance activities package to develop innovation literacy, and (2) innovation literacy questionnaire, with reliability coefficient of .88.  Statistics employed for data analysis were the median, inter-quartile range, Wilcoxon Matched-Pairs Signed-Ranks Test, and Mann-Whitney U test.             
         The research found that (1) the nurses who used the guidance activities package had innovation literacy level significantly higher than their counterpart level before using it at the .01 level of statistical significance; and (2) the nurses who used the guidance activities package had innovation literacy scores significantly higher than the counterpart scores of the nurses who received normal guidance suggestions at the .01 level of statistical significance.
