Abstract

In these recent years, there are many Chinese tourists in Thailand. According to the statistics in 2014, there were 4.6 million Chinese tourists visited Thailand, making a lot of money to local business and improving the country’s economy. However, business entrepreneurs in all fields should develop or find new strategies to attract Chinese tourists and, more importantly, consider about quality of goods and service. This research used data analyzed from questionnaire about goods and products sold in Pratunam clothing market, selling both retailed and whole sale clothes as the most important clothing market in Thailand. This was aimed to meet the objective of this research which is to analyze Chinese language usage in Pratunam clothing market and develop clothing business in this area. Chinese language usage in providing service and selling products was also studied since there were many Chinese tourists in this area. From the research and analysis of Chinese language usage in Pratunam clothing market area, it was found that only information counter staff in department stores who were able to communicate in English. Since there were a lot of Chinese customers, many stores around this area adjusted themselves to reach Chinese customers. Some sellers can communicate in Chinese. However, they rather use English as they are not so well equipped with Chinese speaking skill.
