Abstract

The purposes of the research are 1) to compare the learning achievement of  grade 10 students before and after using Metacognitive-based learning activities in mathematical problem solving on quadratic equations with one variable, 2) to compare the cognitive achievement of  grade 10  students after learning  Metacognitive-based learning activities in mathematical problem solving on quadratic equations with one variable with the 75% standard criteria, and 3) to study satisfaction of grade 10 students after learning through the Metacognitive-based learning activities in mathematical problem solving on quadratic equations with one variable. The research samples were 30 high school students in Room 4/2 of Muangnakhonsithammarat school, Muang District, Nakhon Si Thammarat province during the second semester of 2016. The samples were drawn by cluster random sampling using a classroom as a unit of sampling. The instruments used in this study were 1) ten lesson plans of the Metacognitive-based learning in mathematical problem solving on quadratic equations with one variable, 2) a 4 choice achievement test consisting of 30 multiple choices questions, and 3) a questionnaire consisted of 15 questions. The data were subsequently analyzed by mean, standard deviation, and t – test.

        The findings were as follows:

  1. The students’ posttest of learning achievement after using Metacognitive-based learning activities in mathematical problem solving on quadratic equations with one variable was higher than the pretest at the .05 levels.

  2. The students’ posttest of learning achievement after using Metacognitive-based learning activities in mathematical problem solving on quadratic equations with one variable was higher than the 75% standard criteria at the .05 levels.

  3. The students’ satisfaction towards the Metacognitive-based learning activities in mathematical problem solving on quadratic equations with one variable was at the highest level.
