THE STUDY OF PROCESS AND RESULTS OF SCHOOL COMPETENCY-BASED CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

The purposes of this research were 1) to study the process of developing a school competency-based curriculum 2) to study support systems and obstacles in working to develop a school competency-based curriculum, and 3) to prepare policy suggestions. There were 40 schools participating in this research. The tools for this research were questionnaires, interviews form, and focus groups form. The research process was divided into 3 phases: the preparation phase; the data collection phase   and the phase of data analysis summary and prepare research report. Data analysis used descriptive statistics and content analysis.


The results of the research found that 1) the process of developing a school competency-based curriculum included a process of school preparation in 7 areas and the most difficult aspect was competency-based assessment, 2) important factors that caused success were administrators, teachers, teacher care and support systems learning resources and learning networks, while important obstacles was a lack of understanding of concepts and guidelines about school competency based curriculum, and 3) policy suggestions of central and provincial/area agencies were organizing related systems clearly , organize resources to support the development of the school competency based curriculum and organize a space to exchange knowledge with various learning networks . Suggestions of schools were to organize a support system of operations and prepare for curriculum development, and the details of the curriculum.
