Using ChatGPT in Information Literacy Instruction
Keywords:
Information Literacy, ChatGPT, Generative Artificial IntelligenceAbstract
ChatGPT is a creative artificial intelligence used to answer questions based on user’s interests and needs. Librarians and instructors at higher education institutions utilize ChatGPT as a teaching tool to develop students into information literates. For students to effectively use the results or answers generated by ChatGPT, they need to know how to evaluate the information regarding its relevance, reliability, accuracy, and alignment with their objectives. They must also consider the sources of the information and any citations or references present in the generated text to avoid plagiarism. This issue serves as the foundation for presenting content on the use of ChatGPT in teaching information literacy in this article, which includes details about the fundamental concepts of using ChatGPT, the information literacy framework linking ChatGPT, the role of librarians, instructional design, as well as learning activities, teaching media, and assessment.
