An Integrated Group Counseling to Develop Social Skills of Rajabhat University Students

Abstract

Abstract

                The purposes of this study were to 1) study the factors of social skills of Rajabhat University students, 2) design an integrated group counseling program to develop social skills of Rajabhat University students; and  3) compare the results of integrated counseling program to develop social skills of Rajabhat University students. The samples were divided into two groups. The first group used to analyze the factors of social skills consisted of 1,036 first year students from Rajabhat University Northern Group. The second group consisted of 24 first year students from Nakhon Sawan Rajabhat. A simple random sampling method was later employed to divide into an experimental group of 12 students and a control group of 12 students. The data analysis was carried out using confirmatory factor analysis and two way repeated ANOVA.

                The findings of the study can be concluded as follows:

                1.  The confirmatory factor analysis significantly verified that model of social skills functioning of Rajabhat University students could be characterized into seven factors; namely communication behaviors, cooperation behaviors, assertion behaviors, responsibility behaviors, empathy behaviors, engagement behaviors and self-control behaviors, which congruent with the empirical data. The factor loadings of those seven factors were high at the .05 level.

                2.  The integrated group counseling to develop social skills consisted of three stages: Initial stage, working stage, and final stage.

                3.  The social skills between the experimental group which received integrated group counseling and the control group which did not received integrated group counseling measured during after counseling and follow-up periods are significantly different at the .05 level.

                4. The social skills of the experimental group which received integrated group counseling measured during before counseling, after counseling, and follow-up periods are significantly different at the .05 level.
