Abstract

The study aimed to study the nostalgic experiences of football tourism and suggest guidelines for creating football tourism destinations based on nostalgic experiences. This qualitative research utilized in-depth interviews to collect the data with 32 informants including executives of the provincial tourism and sports offices, executives of the provincial administrative organizations, executives of football clubs, hotel business operators, restaurant business operators, souvenir shop owners, local residents and football tourists in areas with football teams competing in Thai League 1 and Thai League 2. The data were analyzed by using content analysis. The findings revealed that the nostalgic experience of football tourism comprised 6 aspects: experience, sport team, environment, socialization, personal identity, and group identity. It was suggested that the guidelines for creating football tourism destinations should include 6 key strategies: creating attractions for football tourism, improving accessibility to football tourism destinations, enhancing facilities for football tourism, organizing football tourism activities, creating an immersive football tourism atmosphere, and managing safety in football tourism. The research results can assist those involved in football tourism by offering products and services that effectively create nostalgic experiences tailored to the needs of football tourists.
