This qualitative research aimed to study directions for tourism management in Takua Pa Old Town through the participation process which involved exploring views from the past, present, and future. Data were collected through three processes: interviews with 14 participants consisting of history experts and tourism activity organizers; a group process stage involving 27 participants consisting of a community forum, people in the community, academics and related agencies; and participant and non-participant observation. The data were analyzed, categorized, and interpreted. The results were summarized using descriptive statistics. The results were as follows. First, reflecting on the past, external agencies mostly take major roles in organizing activities. The community is an additional part of tourism management with little participation. Second, looking at the present, tourism management by the community relies on both internal and external groups, network coordination, and integration through exchanges. There are more resources for culture learning driven to a tourism concept. Community participation is increased. Third, determining the future, communities can determine directions, impacts, responses, and plans for the integration of tourism for self-management as well as raise an awareness of the conservation and revival of the old town through participant processes using tourism as an important tool.
