A STUDY ON NEEDS OF STAKEHOLDERS IN CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT OF NON-DEGREE PROGRAMS

Abstract
The purposes of this research were: 1) to study stakeholders' needs to develop non-degree curricula and 2) to collect data from the suggestions to develop non-degree curricula for Rambhai Barni Rajabhat University. The research population consisted of 454 people: 54 heads of programs, the university personnel, and 400 outsiders from all districts of Chanthaburi who were involved with the university. The research instrument was a needs questionnaire. The statistics used for data analysis were: frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation.
The results:
The heads of programs’ personal information were as follows: the majority of them were female; aged 31 – 40; held master’s degrees; and earned more than 20,000 baht per month. The result also indicated that the needs of the heads of programs regarding non-degree curricula, both overall and in each specific aspect, were at a high level. Specifically, needs in the first range of each aspect were as follows: (1) for the aspect of curriculum types, Up-Skill, Re-Skill, and New-Skill should be focused on first, (2) for the aspect of curriculum contents, health tourism industry should be provided for first, (3) for the aspect of personnel potential development, developing the 21st century skills of teachers and educational personnel should be done first, (4) for the aspect of the length of courses, a course was required to be at least 4 weeks long first, and (5) for the aspect of class types, a lecture and practical class was needed first. The results of the outsiders’ personal information were as follows: the majority of them were female; aged 20 – 30; held bachelor’s degrees; and earned more than 20,000 baht per month. The result also indicated that the needs of the outsiders regarding non-degree curricula, both overall and in each specific aspect, were at a high level. Specifically, needs in the first range of each aspect were as follows: (1) for the aspect of curriculum types, the curricula which served communities’ needs should be focused on first, (2) for the aspect of curriculum contents, smart electronics industry should be provided for first, (3) for the aspect of personnel potential development, developing elderly care should be done first, (4) for the aspect of the length of courses, a course was required to be 2 weeks long first, and (5) for the aspect of class types, a lecture class was needed first.
From the results above, it appears that the university personnel’s needs towards developing non-degree curricula were different from the outsiders’ needs. Consequently, this factor should be considered when determining the non-degree curriculum development policy of Rambhai Barni Rajabhat University.
