THE DEVELOPMENT OF COMPETENCY AND TEACHING BEHAVIOR ON CLINICAL TEACHING EFFECTIVENESS OF PHYSICAL THERAPY CLINICAL INSTRUCTOR IN THAILAND

Abstract
The purposes of this study were: 1) to find competency factors and teaching behaviors affecting clinical teaching effectiveness, 2) to find guidelines for developing competency and teaching behaviors of physical therapy clinical instructor. The study was a mixed research method with an explanatory sequential design. The quantitative research was conducted by collecting questionnaires with 268 physical therapy clinical instructor, analyzed by Multiple Regression Analysis. This was followed by qualitative research with in-depth interviews with 12 experts and content analysis.
The results of the research found that:
- Factors affecting clinical teaching effectiveness were competencies of clinical instructors in knowledge and professional skills, leadership and teaching behavior.
- Guidelines for developing competency in knowledge and professional skills through training, Leadership by developing according to planning agencies and the development of teaching behaviors through the early clinical Instructor development program. The clinical instructor development plan requires cooperation from the department, professional organization and educational institution in order to have appropriate and standardized guidelines for controlling clinical practice.
