Local English lessons for enhancing reading and writing skills for students in the area of Sampran district, Nakhon Pathom province
The purposes of this study were to develop English lessons based on local information of Sampran district and to study the consequence of the instruction on students’ reading comprehension and writing abilities and the students’ and teacher’s opinions. The sample was 45 grade 8 students studying in the second semester of the academic year 2012 from Nakprasith School. The instruments used for study and collecting data were local lessons, lesson plans, reading and writing tests and opinion questionnaires for students and a teacher on the utilization of the local lessons. The developed lesson implementation reveal that the students’ reading ability scores are higher in the posttest than in the pretest. The writing test scores of the posttests are also a little bit higher than those of the pretests. The students’ and teacher’s opinions on the English local lessons instruction are found to be at a high level for the aspects of contents, activities, classroom atmosphere and usefulness of the lessons. However, the aspect of the teacher’s role obtained from the teacher’s questionnaire is rated at a moderate level.
