THE DEVELOPMENT OF CHINESE PHONETICS READING COMPETENCY OF SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS BY COGNITIVE COACHING BASED LEARNING

Abstract

The purposes of the research were to 1) enhance seventh grade students’ Chinese phonetics reading competency by using the cognitive coaching strategy. 2) study the changes of students’ Chinese phonetics reading competency after the using of the cognitive coaching strategy and 3) investigate students’ attitude toward the cognitive coaching strategy. The participants were 5 seven grade students who studied Chinese program during the first semester in academic year of 2018 of Phanomtuanpittayakom School. Cognitive coaching lesson plans, Chinese phonetics reading test, and journal writing were administered as instruments in this research. The data were analyzed by the statistical percentage (%), mean (x), standard deviation (S.D.), the normalized gain, and content analysis. The result of this research showed that: 1) The pre-test and post-test scores in Chinese phonetics reading test were significantly different. 2) after implemented with the cognitive coaching strategy, students had academic progress in level high. 3) students had the positive attitude on the cognitive coaching strategy. They claimed that teaching and learning process of the cognitive coaching strategy motivated them in learning, provided the good environment in learning, and improved their Chinese proficiency. Moreover, they can apply the knowledge in their real life.
