Abstract
Challenge-based learning is a concept developed from the “Apple Classroom of Tomorrow-Today Project” (ACOT2) conducted earlier in 2008. It seeks to create challenges to stimulate students’ cognitive learning. It provides an opportunity for students to have discussions and practice problem-solving skills based on real life challenges. Students are made to encounter 5 steps in the learning process: 1) Big idea 2) Essential question 3) The challenge 4) Solution and taking action and 5) Assessment. The implementation of the concept has been successful in fostering co-learning between learners and teachers based on real life circumstances, leading students to take actions and apply the learning outcomes to the real world.
