LABOR PROTECTION OF FOREIGN WORKERS UNDER SOCIAL SECURITY FUND AND COMPENSATION FUND IN PATTANI PROVINCE

Abstract
Thailand has launched the Social Security Act and the Compensation Act to protect workers working in specified workplaces. These laws also cover foreign workers working in Thailand. This research aimed to: 1) study the level of knowledge and foreign workers’ protection of foreign workers in Pattani Province according to laws about social security fund and compensation fund; and 2) compare the level of knowledge and foreign workers’protection according to laws about social security fund and compensation fund as classified by personal characteristics. The sample was, selected by simple random sampling, 210 workers from Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos. The data were collected by a test and a questionnaire which met the validity and reliability test. The data obtained in this study were analyzed with basic statistics, t-test and one way ANOVA. The results showed that the foreign workers obtained knowledge about the benefits of both funds at a high level. Additionally, they assessed themselves having the highest level of protection from both funds. When comparing the personal differences with the dependent variable, it found that the differences in age, marital status, and work tenure affected the workers to differently get protection from both funds with a statistical significance of .05. In addition, the workers with different types of employment had different knowledge on social security with a statistical significance of .01.
