Abstract

          The research aimed to study: 1) the characteristics of school administrators under the Office of Ratchaburi Primary Educational Service Area 1; 2) the effectiveness of academic administration in schools under the office of Ratchaburi Primary Educational Service Area 1; and 3) the characteristics of school administrators affecting the effectiveness of academic administration in schools under the Office of Ratchaburi Primary Educational Service Area 1. The sample was 492 school directors, head of academic department, teachers, and school committee, derived by stratified random sampling. The instrument used for data collection was a 5-scale questionnaire with the reliability of 0.97. The statistics used for data analysis were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and multiple regression.


          The research findings were as follows:


          1. Overall the characteristics of school administrators under the Office of Ratchaburi Primary Educational Service Area 1 was at a high level. The aspects, in the descending order, were social characteristics, personality, task-related characteristics, physical characteristics, intellectual skill and ability, and social background and socio-economic status.


          2. Overall the effectiveness of academic administration in schools under the Office of Ratchaburi Primary Educational Service Area 1 was at a high level. The aspects, in the descending order, were defining the school mission, managing the instructional program, and promoting school climate.


          3. The characteristics of school administrators in the aspects of intellectual skill and ability, and personality affected the effectiveness of academic administration in schools; and together predicted the effectiveness of academic administration at the percentage of 99.10. The equation was as follows:
