DEVELOPMENT OF CRITICAL READING ABILITY OF GRADE 10 STUDENTS BY USING SQ5R METHOD

Abstract

          The purposes of this research were to: 1) compare the students’ critical reading ability before and after learning by using SQ5R method; 2) study the students’opinions on learning by using SQ5R method. The sample was a class of 34 students in grade 10 in the 1st semester of academic year 2017 at Phrapathom Witthayalai School under the Secondary Educational Service Area Office 9, derived by simple random sampling.The research instruments were critical reading learning lesson plans based on SQ5R method, a critical reading ability test, and a students’questionnaire about critical reading learning by using SQ5R method. The data were analyzed with mean, standard deviation, t-test.


          The research results findings were as follows:


  1. The critical reading ability of grade 10 students after learning by using SQ5R method was significantly higher than that of before at .05 level of statistical significance.

  2. The students’ opinions on learning by using SQ5R method were at the highest positive level.
