DEVELOPMENT OF GRADE 3 STUDENTS’ LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT IN WORDS SPELLING AND SOCIAL SKILLS BY USING TGT COOPERATIVE LEARNING TECHNIQUE TOGETHER WITH EXERCISES

Abstract

         The purposes of this research were to: 1) compare the learning achievement in words spelling of grade 3 students; 2) study the social skills of grade 3 students who participated in TGT cooperative learning technique together with exercises; and 3) study the opinions of grade 3 students on learning by using TGT cooperative learning technique together with exercises. The sample of this research consisted of 48 students of Wat Khao Wang School (Sang Chuangsuwanit), derived by simple random sampling. The research instruments were: 1) lesson plans using TGT cooperative learning technique together with exercises; 2) word spelling exercises; 3) an achievement test; 4) a social skills evaluation form; and 5) a questionnaire about students’ opinions towards learning by using TGT cooperative learning technique together with words spelling exercises. Data were analyzed with mean, standard deviation, t-test and content analysis.


          The findings were as follows:


  1. The learning achievement in words spelling of grade 3 students after using TGT cooperative learning technique together with exercises was higher than that of before with the statistical significance at .05 level.

  2. The social skills of grade 3 students after using TGT cooperative learning technique together with exercises are at the high level.

  3. Overall, the opinions of grade 3 students toward the learning by using TGT cooperative learning technique together with exercises were highly positive.
