EXPERIMENT FOR THE USE OF DIALIUM PEEL MIXED WITH SAWDUST FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF THE MATERIAL FOR PRODUCT DESIGN

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to 1. Study and experiment on making a material from the extrusion of dialium shell mixed with sawdust from rubber wood. 2. Test on the physical properties, load capacity, and the possibility to be used as a material for product design. This was conducted as an experimental research with using of dialium shell mixed with sawdust, and wet powder liquid glue as an adhesive agent. The ratio used on the test to obtain the optimum values is dialium shell 35%, wet powder liquid glue 60%, and sawdust from rubber wood 5%. Those were mixed, extruded, then sun dried for 7 days. The test was divided into 2 types which are Test A is a test on mixture and extrusion of dialium shell with coarse sawdust: dimension 6.5x18.5x1.5 cm. And Test B is from dialium shell and fine sawdust: dimension 6.5x18.5x2 cm.. 4 samples of each types were used. And the moisture and weight-bearing capacity were determined. The average moisture content of the material indicated Test A1 with moisture 11.5%, Test A2 with moisture 13%, Test B1 with Moisture 10.5%, and Test B2 with Moisture 12.75%. The average weight-bearing capacity with Test A1 was 2.725 Kg. / Sq.cm., the Test A2 can hold 3.475 kg/ Sq.cm., while Test B1 can support 3.625 kกรัม / Sq.cm., and Test B2 can hold 4.075 kกรัม / Sq.cm. The ability of the Test B to carry weight was better. The experiment of capacity of both types pointed out positive possibility of being used as a material for product design.
