When these two terms are combined with the verb "行く" (to go), students frequently have confusion while selecting the appropriate auxiliary word. Hence, the researcher conducted an analysis of the phrases "に行く" and "へ行く" in order to determine their simplicity and identify some differences between them. This analysis was carried out using a corpus (specifically, a text corpus) obtained from two sources: The Chuunagon corpus and NINJAL -LWP. The findings revealed that both corpora exhibited a greater frequency in the usage of the term "に行く". Both spoken and written languages utilize "に" to a greater extent than "へ" as it conveys a sense of direction or goal, and other goals, aims, or purposes.</p> Worapon Noinil, Nozomi Kawakami, Hata Ayaka, Kanittapol Sangnaree, Sureerat Ngamsangapong Copyright (c) 2024 RMUTK Journal of Liberal Arts https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://so02.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/larts-journal/article/view/271794 Thu, 28 Nov 2024 00:00:00 +0700 A Comparative Study of the Locative Word Between Chinese Word " li " and Thai Word " nai" https://so02.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/larts-journal/article/view/266551 <p>As an important spatial concept, locative words have always held a special place in the modern Chinese word class system. This paper took the Chinese high frequency locative word " Li " as the main research object. Underpinned by cognitive linguistics as the theoretical framework, this paper explored three aspects of the specific spatial location concepts, extending time concepts and other abstractions. The comparative analysis of Chinese position words “Li” and Thai word “Nai” indicated both similarities and differences in the spatial meaning, grammatical meaning and extended meaning in the practical application between the Chinese and Thai language environments. The findings revealed that the locative word " Li " presented different characteristics in varied language environments. Also, the results can offer valuable suggestions and references for language learning activities and teaching Chinese as a foreign language in both China and Thailand.</p> Piyaporn Dangtankee Copyright (c) 2024 RMUTK Journal of Liberal Arts https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://so02.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/larts-journal/article/view/266551 Thu, 28 Nov 2024 00:00:00 +0700 Learning Styles of Chinese Language Students in the Bachelor of Arts in Chinese for Communication Program, Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep https://so02.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/larts-journal/article/view/271801 <p>Learner study is crucial for curriculum and teaching development. The primary purposes of this study are to:1) conduct a comparative analysis of learning styles among Chinese language students in the Communication Chinese program at Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep, 2) assess the relationship between these learning styles and students' academic outcomes, and 3) compare the learning styles of fourth-year students who have achieved HSK5 proficiency with those who are in the process of preparing for the HSK5 exam in the 2023 academic year. The research tool was a questionnaire adapted from Grasha and Reichmann's learning style questionnaire, with a reliability coefficient of 0.95. Data analysis employed descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and t-test. The results of this research showed that students across all year levels predominantly exhibited a dependent learning style. Participative, independent, and competitive learning styles positively correlated with students' Chinese language achievement levels at statistical significance levels of 0.01, 0.05, and 0.05, respectively. The avoidant learning style negatively correlated with Chinese language achievement at a 0.01 significance level. Fourth-year students who passed the HSK5 test demonstrated significantly different uses of dependent, participative, independent, and avoidant learning styles, compared to those preparing for the HSK5 test. Therefore, to tailor teaching and learning management to suit the students’ learning styles, instructors have to understand and study individual traits, interests, and classroom behaviors. These include learning characteristics, peer interactions, and students’ responsibility in developing Chinese language learning strategies which are suitable for learners and can stimulate both their interests and academic achievement.</p> Supitcha Taveetanaviriya, Kailling Zhao Copyright (c) 2024 RMUTK Journal of Liberal Arts https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://so02.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/larts-journal/article/view/271801 Thu, 28 Nov 2024 00:00:00 +0700 The Development of an Educational Game to Promote English Language Communication Skills on Giving Directions for First-year Vocational Certificate Students at Samchuk Ratanaphokaram School https://so02.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/larts-journal/article/view/268440 <p>The objectives of this research are as follow: 1) to develop an educational game to promote English Language communication skills, specifically focusing on giving directions for first-year vocational certificate students at Samchuk ratanaphokaram School. 2) to compare the communication skills in real-life English language classes of students taught using traditional methods (control group) with those taught using the educational game (experimental group). 3) to study the feedback on the educational game for teaching directional language in English language classes from students. The sample group consists of first-year vocational certificate students from Samchuk Rattanaphokaram School, second semester, academic year 2023, totaling 40 individuals. The simple random sampling method was used to divide them into two groups: experimental and control, through randomization. The research tools include the educational game for promoting communication skills, specifically giving directions, and a test measuring learning outcome regarding directional language. This test consists of 20 multiple-choice questions. Statistical analysis used in this research includes mean, standard deviation, and t-test. The research found that there was a significant improvement in learning outcomes for students taught using the educational game to promote English language communication skills, specifically in giving directions. The experimental group outperformed the control group, with the post-test scores showing a statistically significant difference (t=7.31, Sig.=.00). Additionally, the experimental group expressed significantly higher satisfaction with learning English through the educational game (X̅ = 4.43, S.D.=0.19).</p> Sirithiti Sorahong, Sirapat Juntamongkol Copyright (c) 2024 RMUTK Journal of Liberal Arts https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://so02.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/larts-journal/article/view/268440 Thu, 28 Nov 2024 00:00:00 +0700 Thai Undergraduate Students’ Initial Perceptions of Learning English through Duolingo https://so02.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/larts-journal/article/view/272738 <p>This study examined Thai undergraduate students' initial perceptions of using Duolingo to learn English. The samples of this study were 25 Thai 3rd year undergraduate Japanese major students. The samples were taking English as a minor subject. The samples were chosen as they were readily available and possessed the necessary attributes for this study. Twenty-four out of twenty-five students had never used Duolingo previously, and one student had used the application for less than one week. The students were therefore deemed to be unfamiliar with the application. The study used a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire and closed-end interview questions. The results of this study showed that students were generally favourable toward the Duolingo application. However, issues were noted concerning advertising and the rewarding system.</p> Alan Robert White, Piyawan Jaroenchaiwat, Busarin Detdamrongpreecha, Piyarat Pipattarasakul Copyright (c) 2024 RMUTK Journal of Liberal Arts https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://so02.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/larts-journal/article/view/272738 Thu, 28 Nov 2024 00:00:00 +0700 Learning management guidelines to encourage morality and ethics based on The 5 Threefold Training Model of the 5th- Grade Students at Wat Dan Chang https://so02.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/larts-journal/article/view/268360 <p>The purpose of this article was to study the current condition of learning management to promote morality based on the 5 Threefold Training Model (aware, manage, implement, maintain, apply) of 5th- grade students, Wat Dan Chang. The target population were 140 students in the fifth grade at Wat Dan Chang School, Suphanburi, 10 teachers, 3 school administrators, and 2 expert teachers. The instruments used were a questionnaire, observation and an interview. The data was statistically analyzed by arithmetic average (<img id="output" src="https://latex.codecogs.com/svg.image?\bar{X}" alt="equation" />) and standard deviation (S.D.). The results showed that the overall current condition of learning management to encourage morality following the 5 Threefold Training Model of 5th-grade students at Wat Dan Chang School was at a high level. Organizing activities through a practical training was the highest, while the information of the students’ behavior was moderate, and the knowledge was the highest. Regarding the learning management guidelines to encourage moral ethics by the 5 Threefold Training Model, it is suggested that the school conduct a meeting to build a common understanding of the learning management guidelines to encourage ethics among the students and the teachers in the school. Then the school should create project activities to promote the moral and ethics of the students in each aspect, with the teachers as the leaders responsible for implementing those activities concretely, related to the 5 Threefold Training Model. Afterward, these activities require monitoring and evaluation to ensure that guidelines are refined or enhanced for increased effectiveness.</p> Somsak Khotchakhong, Sirapat Juntamongkol Copyright (c) 2024 RMUTK Journal of Liberal Arts https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://so02.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/larts-journal/article/view/268360 Thu, 28 Nov 2024 00:00:00 +0700 Mental Health and Health Behaviors of the Population Under the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Case Study of Wiang Nue Community, Chiang Rai Province https://so02.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/larts-journal/article/view/268024 <p>Under the pressure during the COVID-19 pandemic situation, it affected to mental health of the population, particularly in semi-urban and rural areas. The qualitative research methodology guided this community participatory research, which involved voluntary participants. It also included a community participatory meeting to formulate the research questions and derive qualitative data. In addition, documentary research was conducted to analyze the content-based data. The findings revealed that Wangman community used to be a community of Lao Krang who migrated into this area since the early Ratanakosin era. Back then, people in this community lived their lives following Lao Krang culture and beliefs. They later expanded the community by marrying Thai, Chinese, and other Lao clans in the area; therefore, the community’s population grew. However, the community was later affected by drought, which could be a result of deforestation for charcoal production over the past 40 years. This resulted in major agricultural difficulties. People in Wangman then moved out of the community to seek better living in other areas. These movements suggested the possibility of sociocultural transformations. Furthermore, the younger generations of Wangman locals appeared to be discouraged from preserving their identity and originality of Lao Krang heritage. Drought and lack of water for agriculture were identified as the primary causes of problems and transformation, leading to outmigration and a transformation of the community in terms of sociocultural aspects such as life style, traditions, occupations, and values. It could also be observed that there had been changes in the way local wisdom was applied, resulting in degradation of Lao Krang identity.</p> Somkhane Plaengritt, Phakatorn Chanrittisan, Sukanda Sarnnoi, Orawan Chueanoi, Pattanan Rattanavorasawet, Supunnee Pladsrichuay, Waeorawee Larpkern, Thamaporn Phumpij Copyright (c) 2024 RMUTK Journal of Liberal Arts https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://so02.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/larts-journal/article/view/270719 Thu, 28 Nov 2024 00:00:00 +0700
