In order for a film to express its concept and content successfully, a film maker needs to be equipped with special and multidisciplinary abilities. Art direction is one of these abilities, as it designates the composition of visual elements, mood, and tone for a whole film. Therefore, art direction is a field of study that gains an interest from film makers of all periods. Various surrealist film artists experimented on art direction. Most of them focused on the creation of materials and objects derived from their imagination, which were far more different from those in the real world. Audiences were provoked through their own seeing. What they saw was the world of imagination and dream based on the ideal of the surrealist artists.
