The Effects of Research-Based Learning with Social Media on Principle of Statistics on Learning and Satisfaction of Students at University in Nakhon Pathom Province

Abstract

This article aimed to study (1) compare the average score before and after they studied the Principle of Statistics using Research-Based Learning with social media (2) study the students’ learning progression and (3) investigate the students’ satisfaction towards the Principle of Statistics using Research-Based Learning with social media. The sample was 62 students who registered for the TSTA3102 Principle of Statistics in Semester 2 of Academic Year 2567 which were chosen from the simple random sampling method. The instrument for collecting data were a 50-item test of the TSTA3102 Statistics subject and a questionnaire to assess student satisfaction with the use of research-based learning management combined with the use of online social networks. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, paired t-test and normalized gain. The research results were found as follows; 1) The students who learned the Principle of Statistic using Research-Based Learning with social media gained learning outcomes higher than before studying this technique with a 0.5 statistically significant difference value. 2) Analysis of the data using class normalized gain showed that Research-Based Learning with social media resulted in an overall in high gain. 3) The overall students’ satisfaction was at the highest level. The findings from this research indicate that Research-Based Learning with social media enables learners to develop analytical thinking, problem-solving, planning, data collection, data presentation and summarizing skills, as well as time management, communication, processing, and teamwork skills, resulting in higher academic achievement in the subject.
