The Study of Vipassana Meditation Found in Kundaliya Sutta

Abstract

This article aimed 1) to study the content and Buddhist teaching of Kundaliya Sutta, (2) to analyze the practice of Vipassana meditation in the Kundaliya Sutta. It was documentary research by taking information of Buddhist Tipitaka and relevant scriptures, such as Visuthimagga  etc., then being reviewed, improved and edited by adviser, compiling in descriptive style.The study found that The analysis of way to practice Vipassana in Kundaliya Sutta was divided into four parts: 1) Indriyasamvara for Vipassana practice by observing the six sensual contacts to prevent desire from mind, 2) Three Virtueous Actions, by purification of three bodily actions, 4 verbal acts and three mental acts, 3) Four Mindfulness including 4 objects; body, feeling, mentality and thought formations which are arising and falling away in the form of Three Common Manner with continued contemplation, 4) Seven Enlightenment Factors include Sati Dhammavicayasambojjhanga,Viriyasambojjhanga Pitisambojjhanga, Passaddhisambojjhanga, Samadhisambojjhanaga and Upekkhasambojjhanga. The five faculty development in Sambojjhanga will lead to neutral state of mentality, without attachment in any mental formation, holding Nibbana as its object, entering knowledge as well as liberation and final Sotapanna attainment.
