Transformational Leadership and Human Resource Management for Organizational Sustainability in the Digital Era

Abstract

This article aims to explain and synthesize the role of transformational leadership in supporting human resource management (HRM) for organizational sustainability in the digital era. It introduces an integrative conceptual framework called the 3S Framework, comprising Synergy (integrating economic, social, and environmental values into HRM), Smartification (leveraging digital technologies and HR analytics to enhance efficiency and strategic decision-making), and Sustainment (establishing reskilling and upskilling systems along with individualized consideration to preserve human capital in the long term). The synthesis highlights transformational leadership as a crucial integrative mechanism that bridges sustainable HRM and digital HRM, thereby fostering organizational agility, resilience, and innovation that lead to long-term sustainability. The article contributes academically by filling a critical knowledge gap in the Thai and Southeast Asian contexts, and practically by providing actionable guidelines for leaders and HR managers to adopt the proposed model in driving Thai organizations toward global competitiveness while ensuring sustainability.
