บทคัดย่อ
บทความเชิงทฤษฎีนี้ตั้งต้นจากคำถามธรรมดาที่อาจารย์หญิงโสดในมหาวิทยาลัยไทยได้ยินซ้ำในชีวิตประจำวัน "ทำไมน้องไม่แต่งงาน จะอยู่อีกนานเท่าไหร่" บทความอธิบายว่าคำถามที่ดูเป็นการแสดงความห่วงใยเชิงวัฒนธรรม กลับทำงานเป็นกลไกอำนาจเชิงสถาบันได้อย่างไร ผ่านการบรรจบกันของเวลา อารมณ์ และศีลธรรมในที่ทำงานทางวิชาการ บทความใช้การสังเคราะห์เชิงทฤษฎีที่เชื่อมทฤษฎีการกระทำทางภาษาของ Austin และ Butler สังคมวิทยาเวลาของ Freeman และ Sharma ทฤษฎีอารมณ์ของ Ahmed การเมืองของความเหมาะสมของ Skeggs และกรอบเชิงตัดข้ามของ Crenshaw ร่วมกับฉากทัศน์เชิงทฤษฎีจากสนามวิชาการไทย การวิเคราะห์ชี้ว่าคำถามดังกล่าวทำงานผ่านทั้งสามชั้นของการกระทำทางภาษา โดยมีเงื่อนไขความสำเร็จที่ขึ้นกับลำดับชั้น บริบทกึ่งทางการ จังหวะเวลาเชิงชีวประวัติ และความเสี่ยงทางอาชีพ บทความเสนอแนวคิดใหม่หกประการที่ทำงานเสริมกัน ได้แก่ 1) เส้นตายแห่งความเป็นหญิงเชิงสถาบัน 2) การกำกับควบคุมที่หุ้มด้วยความห่วงใย 3) ความเหมาะสมทางวิชาการ 4) ความคลุมเครือเชิงยุทธศาสตร์ 5) บัญชีศีลธรรมที่ไม่สมมาตร และ 6) ไวยากรณ์สถาบันรักต่างเพศ ซึ่งครอบคลุมทั้งกลไกอำนาจ การปฏิบัติการประจำวัน และการต่อรองของผู้ถูกกระทำ การวางบริบทโลกใต้เป็นแหล่งผลิตทฤษฎี ขยายวรรณกรรมว่าด้วยสังคมวิทยาเวลา การศึกษาองค์กรเชิงเพศสภาพ และทฤษฎีสตรีนิยมว่าด้วยอำนาจแบบละมุน บทความปิดท้ายด้วยทฤษฎีการแทรกแซงสามระดับที่เสนอเส้นทางการเปลี่ยนแปลงที่เป็นรูปธรรม
