Abstract

The production of movies and TV series based on true stories in history is a controversy whether it should they should portrait the exact true stories or they could have details that are not true stories that happened in the past. This research is a documentary research digging into reviews and criticism of people who are keen at producing movies and TV series based on true stories. The research revealed that the producer, the story writer, and the script writer should have liberty of “literary truth” to add some details to make the production entertaining, interesting, and emotion arousing, while maintaining the true meaning of the stories. To come up with a quality production, the producer, the story writer, the script writer, and actors should work in an integrated fashion to make the production entertaining and it should inspire the audience to learn more about what really happened in the past. The production is not a history lesson that the audience should memorize to past a test, but it should subtly teach history, culture, languages, tradition, and customs in the past. To produce movies and TV series that contain empirical truths exactly as they have been recorded in the history will make the production a history documentary, not an entertainment it should be.
