บทคัดย่อ
ราล์ฟ ฟิตช์ (Ralph Fitch) เกิดในคริสตศักราช 1550 เสียชีวิตวันที่ 4 ตุลาคม คริสตศักราช 1611 เป็นพ่อค้าชาวอังกฤษมีชีวิตอยู่ในช่วงปลายคริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 16 ถึงต้นคริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 17 เดินทางมาเอเชียพร้อมกับเพื่อนอีก 4 คน เขาออกจากกรุงลอนดอนเมื่อ ค.ศ.1583/พ.ศ.2126 (ตรงกับอยุธยาในรัชกาลสมเด็จพระมหาธรรมราชา) ผ่านเมืองตริโปลี เบียรา บาบิโลน บาโซรา ออริมัสในตะวันออกกลาง กัว พาราณสี โอริสา และเมืองท่าต่างๆ ในชายฝั่งมหาสมุทรอินเดีย ข้ามบริเวณปากแม่น้ำคงคาไปยังอ่าวเบงกอล ข้ามฝั่งทะเลมายังเกาะลังกา แล้วตัดเข้าสู่เมืองพะโคหรือหงสาวดี และเดินทางต่อไปยังเชียงใหม่ ซึ่งเวลานั้นยังอยู่ภายใต้การปกครองของพม่า จากนั้นจึงย้อนกลับไปยังเมืองพะโค แล้วล่องเรือลงใต้เลียบฝั่งอันดามันไปยังมะริด มะละกา ไซแลน และโคชิน ลุถึงค.ศ.1591/พ.ศ.2134 (ตรงกับอยุธยาในรัชกาลสมเด็จพระนเรศวร) จึงได้เดินทางกลับอังกฤษ รวมระยะเวลาเดินทางรอนแรมอยู่ในเอเชียกว่า 8 ปี ...
