Development Model of Needed Job Skills for New Normal
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to (1) investigate the essential work skills required in the New normal era, (2) analyze the underlying components of these essential work skills, and (3) develop a model for enhancing work skills in the New normal era. The study employed a quantitative research design. The population comprised Thai working-age individuals from the Northern, Central, North-eastern, and Southern regions of Thailand. A total of 480 participants were selected as the research sample. Data were collected using a questionnaire with a high reliability coefficient (Cronbach's alpha = 0.978). Descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, were used for data analysis, while Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was employed to identify the underlying dimensions of the essential work skills.
The findings revealed that (1) 53 work-skill variables were identified as essential in the New normal era. The three highest-rated skills were the ability to adapt to new situations, the ability to search for and select information from digital platforms, and the ability to use digital communication channels to collaborate effectively. (2) The Exploratory Factor Analysis identified 10 components with Eigenvalues greater than 1. KMO = 0.888 and Bartlett’s Test: Approx. Chi-square 23946.436, df 1378. (3) The proposed model for developing essential work skills in the New normal era comprised 10 components: valuing and teamwork skills, systems thinking, systems management, adaptability to workplace changes, digital intelligence, lifelong learning, decision-making, emotional intelligence, creative problem-solving, and the ability to overcome personal limitations. Appropriate approaches for developing these competencies include training and workshops, coaching and mentoring, self-directed learning, on-the-job coaching, and job rotation.
