A Study of Errors in Translating Cultural Words from Thai to Chinese that Appeared in the Subtitles under the Drama "Love Destiny"

Abstract
This research aims to study errors in translating cultural words from Thai to Chinese that appear in the subtitles of the drama “Love Destiny”. The researcher conducted a study by collecting cultural words found in the subtitles. The study was then divided into two issues: the types of cultural words that appeared and errors in translating cultural words. The results of the study found that: 1. cultural words that appear in the captions can be divided into five categories: cultural words related to ecosystems and places, cultural words related to objects, cultural words related to society, cultural words related to religion, and cultural words related to language; 2. errors in translating cultural words can be divided into three types: mistranslation, missing in translation, and inappropriate word choice. The type of cultural words with the most errors are cultural words related to objects, with 66 words; secondly, cultural words related to ecosystems and places, with 50 words; thirdly, cultural words related to language, 45 words; fourthly, cultural words related to language, 29 words; and the last, cultural words related to society, 25 words from the results of the said study. It can be concluded that the translator did not study the novel and the drama script in detail. Therefore, causing a lack of understanding of the author's art of language use. Along with the translator, there may be a lack of knowledge about cultural words in the Thai language. This may be because the drama is a story that happened in the Ayutthaya period; many cultural words are ancient languages, which may be difficult to understand. Therefore, the translator did not give importance to this part.
