The Reference Terms to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother, Used in The Royal Honoring Performance in the 2023 Traditional Pong Lang Folk Music Competition by The Department of Physical Education
Main Article Content
Abstract
The royal honoring performance of Her Majesty in the Royal Trophy Pong Lang Band’s traditional music competition; organized by the Department of Physical Education, featured performances by Pong Lang ensembles from various institutions. They crafted the performance to pay homage and express their loyalty and gratitude. The use of language was elegant, especially when referring to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother, filled with cultural expressions of the Isan region.
This research aims to study the format, structure, and pattern of usage of the reference terms to "Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother" in performances to honor her, including the traditional music competition of the "Pong Lang Band". In addition, it also seeks to examine the thoughts, beliefs, and values reflected in these references by applying the conceptual framework and theories of Halliday & Hasan. The findings indicate that the references to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit follow four structural patterns: 1) single-structure references, 2) two-part structure references, 3) three-part structure references, and 4) four-part or more structure references. These references reflect various ideas, beliefs, and values, including: 1) Her Majesty as the unifying figure of the people, 2) Her Majesty as a figure of great merit and authority, and 3) Her Majesty as the bringer of prosperity and blessings to the nation.
