Abstract

This survey research aims to describe the roles, problems, and suggestions for the development of the role of female inquiry officials in the criminal justice system. The sample included 205 female inquiry officers who graduated from the Royal Police Cadet Academy and held the positions as inquiry officers throughout the country. Data were collected through a self-reported questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics including frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations.

The results showed that: 1) The performance in the female inquiry officials according to the provision of justice was at a high level. When considering each aspect, it was found that the most practiced responsibility was the operation for the investigation of victims and witnesses aged 18 and below. 2) The female inquiry officers at police stations were still facing problems at a medium level, especially problems in the performance of responsibility as an inquiry officer, and problems in the operational system of investigation. 3) A suggestion for the development of the role female inquiry officials was to develop an operational investigation system that clearly states the roles of female inquiry officers. In addition, as female inquiry officers had insufficient knowledge about criminal investigation, they should learn more by themselves. The agencies responsible for training female inquiry officers should focus on providing legal knowledge that would enhance their efficiency according to the assigned roles.
