         บทความชิ้นนี้เกิดจากข้อสังเกตของผู้เขียนเกี่ยวกับเรื่องราวเนื้อหาในหัวข้อความมั่งคั่งและความรุ่งเรืองของเมืองอัมสเตอร์ดัมและสาธารณรัฐดัตช์ที่ถูกใช้อย่างบ่อยครั้งในจิตรกรรมในยุคทองของเนเธอร์แลนด์ในคริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 17 แม้ว่าจะเป็นเรื่องธรรมดาที่เราพบค่อนข้างบ่อยครั้งจากวิสัยทัศน์เชิงบวก การยกย่องบุคคลสำคัญในท้องถิ่น รวมไปถึงความมั่งมีและความรุ่งโรจน์ของประเทศชาตินั้น ๆ ในงานศิลปะ ประเทศใด ๆ ก็ตามย่อมมีบางช่วงเวลาที่มืดมิด ฉะนั้น จึงเป็นสิ่งที่น่าสนใจอย่างยิ่งที่จะศึกษาภาพที่สามารถสื่อถึงเหตุการณ์คับขันของเมืองอัมสเตอร์ดัมและสาธารณรัฐดัตช์ผ่านงานจิตรกรรมที่ผู้เขียนได้ผ่านมาพบ ผู้เขียนได้วิเคราะห์รายละเอียด
ต่าง ๆ ในงานรวมไปถึงข้อมูลทางประวัติศาสตร์ในแง่มุมทางสังคม ศาสนา และทางการเมืองตามลำดับ โดยในอันดับแรกนั้นในงานของศิลปินนิรนาม ได้พบบทบาทของเมืองอัมสเตอร์ดัมในสงครามแปดสิบปีรวมไปถึงเรื่องของทางรอดของชาวคริสต์แห่งสาธารณรัฐดัตช์ซ่อนอยู่ในภาพ ดวงจิตของชาวโปรเตสแตนต์จะพบกับความนิรันดร์ในขณะที่ของชาวดัตช์นิกายโรมันคาทอลิกนั้นจะถูกลงทัณฑ์ ในอันดับต่อมางานชิ้นอื่น ๆ โดยเฉพาะงานทิวทัศน์ชิ้นหนึ่งของ Gerrit Berckheyde นั้นกลับแสดงถึงสถานการณ์ทางการเมืองที่ไม่เสถียรของเมืองอัมสเตอร์ดัมและสาธารณรัฐดัตช์ ในระหว่าง ค.ศ. 1650 และ ค.ศ. 1672 นอกเหนือจากสงครามกับฝรั่งเศสแล้ว การกีดกันราชวงศ์ออเร้นจ์จากการเข้าสู่ตำแหน่งผู้ปกครองสาธารณรัฐยังนำมาสู่เหตุการณ์วุ่นวายในเมืองอัมสเตอร์ดัมและสาธารณรัฐดัตช์เองซึ่งยังเป็นสาธารณรัฐใหม่

Abstract

This article is originated from my observation about how the theme of prosperity and glory of Amsterdam and the Dutch Republic was frequently used in the paintings of the Dutch Golden Age in 17th century. Even though it is common that we find, most of the time, such optimistic perspective, praise of local heroes, or national wealth represented in art objects, every country has its dark period. Thus, it is very interesting to study images that can refer to difficult time of Amsterdam and the Dutch Republic through these paintings that I came across. A close look in pictorial details and some historical informations are discussed in both socioreligious and political contexts. The first art work by anonymous painter reveals Amsterdam’s position in the Eighty Year’s War as well as the question about the salvation of the Dutch Christians. Protestant souls will be saved while those of the Roman Catholic Church will be doomed. The other paintings, especially a landscape by Gerrit Berckheyde, on the other hand, expose the tumultuous political situation in the city and in the Dutch Republic. Between 1650 and 1672, besides the Franco-Dutch War, the deprivation of the House of Orange-Nassau from national leader’s position provoked chaotic circumstances in the city and the young Republic.
