CREATIVE RESEARCH “HATTAYUT LEELA”

Creative Research Hattayut Leela is a musical piece, this project is funded by National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) in its fiscal year of 2021. It conceives as a part of suites for Jazz big bands. It comprises four episodes and lasts for thirty-to-forty minutes. It is inspired by four paintings of four famous artists; each incorporates a specific musical concept: Edvard Munch’s “The Scream” the inspiration of mode and cluster, Pablo Picasso’s “The Guitar Player” the inspiration of minimalism, Wassily Kandinsky’s “The Improvisation 28” the inspiration of free jazz, and Andy Warhol’s “Michael Jackson” the inspiration of pop-rock.
Four concepts of compositions employed here are melody, harmony, texture, and dimension of rhythm. These, combined with several instruments and guided by the principle of improvisation and freestyle performance commonly found among jazz musicians, produce a rich sound and texture for the song.
