AESTHETICS IN THE ROYAL STYLE OF THET MAHA CHAT

This article is a part of a qualitative research entitled “Music in Buddhist Religion (Thet Maha Chat[1])”. It aims to study aesthetics in the lyrics and the melody of the royal style of Thet Maha Chat, using principles, theories and analytical methods of literature studies and musicology. The research findings are as follows: aesthetics in the lyrics can be divided into three types; 1) aesthetics in form, 2) aesthetics in words, and 3) aesthetics in contexts, and aesthetics in the melody appears in 7 significant aspects; 1) varieties of melody 2) vocal quality 3) pitch and vocal range 4) vocal projection 5) tones of Thai language 6) melodic extension and 7) vocal techniques.
