Developing Basic Angklung Performance Skills Using Think-Pair-Share Learning
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research, entitled Developing Basic Angklung Performance Skills Using Think-Pair- Share Learning, aimed to enhance the basic Angklung (traditional bamboo musical instrument) performance skills of Prathomsuksa 3 students at Wat Yang Chai School through the Think-Pair-Share (TPS) learning model. The TPS model is a collaborative learning approach of three sequential stages for knowledge construction. First, the Think stage requires students
to individually reflect and formulate their own ideas. Second, the Pair stage involves students in pairs to exchange and discuss those ideas. Finally, the Share stage encourages students
to present their synthesized ideas from peer discussion in class towards the self-directed knowledge.
The study employed a One-Group Pretest–Posttest Design. The target population comprised a purposive sample of 12 Prathomsuksa 3 students. Research instruments included six TBS-based lesson plans, a pretest-posttest assessment, and a learning outcome recording form. Data were collected over a period of eight weeks.
The results revealed a significant improvement in students' Angklung performance skills.
The mean pretest score was 8 points (40%) at the "Needs Improvement" level. Following
the implementation of TPS learning model, the mean posttest score rose to 18.42 points (92.08%) at the "Excellent" level. This indicated that the TBS approach effectively enhanced students’ performance skills across all components, including pitch accuracy, melody, rhythmic consistency, music reading, and ensemble performance.
Additionally, students demonstrated higher learning enthusiasm, greater confidence in expressive performance, and a continuous increase of confidence when playing the angklung, along with a better collaborative learning among classmates for ideas and opinions. Moreover, this consequently led to mutual assistance and knowledge exchange towards more positive classroom learning atmosphere, increased self-pride and group pride, and more positive attitude of learning Thai traditional music.
