Interpreter and Intercultural Communication

Abstract
This academic article attempts to present the meanings of interpreters based on the ideas of interpretation and translation theory, qualifications of interpreters, issues in performing interpreting responsibilities, intercultural communication, and interpreter duties in the international affairs department within universities. The findings show that translating a foreign language into Thai is challenging if the translator cannot speak Thai well. Even if the translator is fluent in several other languages, it is still crucial to be knowledgeable of the habits, traditions, and way of life of people from various cultures in order to select the right words to convey the message and develop excellent understanding between the discussion partners from other nations and cultures.
